Ha long bay encompasses a total area of 1.553km2, consists of some 1.969 islets and islands, of which 980 have names and almost all islands are uninhabited. Some of the largest islands in Halong bay are:
- Bo Hon island (3,8 km²)
- Ti Top Island (0,37 km²)
- Quan Lan Island (11 km²)
- Soi Sim Island (0,87 km²)
- Dau Go Island (0,7 km²)
