My wife and I will arrive in Hanoi on Feb 27 and stay until March 5. We would like to spend 3-5 days in Halong Bay if the weather is warm enough to swim or enjoy beach. But we heard the weather is still cool (16C-18C) at the end of February. We love authentic, beautiful, less developed areas with fewer crowds. We heard Halong Bay is beautiful but very crowded? We are open to different ideas so long as the area is not more than 2-3 hours from Hanoi by car.

However, the weather may not be favorable for outdoor activities like swimming (often between 16-24C). Our suggestion is still staying in a hotel nearby the Halong bay area and then take an overnight cruises around the bay on the next day!
