Legend of Bai Chay

Literally translated Bai Chay means "burned beach/area" (Bãi means area/beach and Cháy means fire/burned). There are some legends concerning Bai Chay and where the name comes from. One of these legends tells us the story that when Mongolian invaders tried to conquer Halong Bay, Vietnamese soldiers set fire to the ships of the Mongolians. As the fire was raging, a strong wind picked up adding fuel to the fire. As a result, the fire burned down the entire western side of Cua Luc.
